meet the team

We like to have fun and do good, and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Small but perfectly formed, we present to you: The Gamely Team.

Rollover our lovely little faces to find out what make us happy. If you’re on a phone you’ll need to touch our faces (you lucky thing).

Hazel. Founder. Games inventor. The big boss. Say hello to Hazel by email. My favourite Gamely game is: Right now it’s The Pretender. I love the challenge of trying to be subtle with your mini charade but not too subtle. It’s such a fine balance and I usually risk going too obscure! A wonderful board game is: Isle of Skye. The changing objectives make every game different and the buying/selling mechanics create some really great decisions. A fantastic book is: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. An epic novel exploring the impact of slavery, spanning seven generations in Ghana and the US. Incredibly powerful. A great song is: City of Angels by The Distillers. Soundtrack to my youth. A perfect evening is: A sunset swim in the sea then dinner and games on the beach with Chris and our friends. An amazing thing about making games is: Hearing stories about how our games have brought people together to spend quality time together and helped them connect with their parents / grandparents / teenagers / husband’s -cousin’s-wife. Such a special feeling to have made something that brings people joy!

CHRIS

Chris. Pioneer. Designer of lovely looking things. Lovely looking thing. Say hello to Chris by email . My favourite Gamely game is: The Pretender. I love social deduction games and games that make me laugh and The Pretender does both. It’s so satisfying when you get away with a bluff and convince other players you’re in on the secret and it’s hilarious watching a clueless Pretender fail to blend in if they totally get it wrong. A wonderful board game is: Sheriff of Nottingham. I love it. It has a similar vibe to The Pretender as a bit of bluffing is involved, along with some bribery. If you get into character a little it can be really funny. Sneaking a crossbow and some silk past the Sheriff claiming it to be some cheese and a chicken is as rewarding as gaming gets. A fantastic book is: Toast by Nigel Slater. Hazel recommended it to me - I went into it thinking it was a cookery book and ended up in tears. A great song is ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is’ by Otis Redding. It was one of the songs Hazel and I had as our first dance when we got married. I say one of the songs because we had a silent disco and some guest were tuned into the other channel - listening to ‘Hot In Here’ by Nelly. A perfect evening is: A meal out with Hazel along with a cheeky two player board game between courses. An amazing thing about making games is: Hearing from people who’ve played them and love them. It’s awesome knowing our games are out there making people laugh.

My favourite Gamely game is: Soundiculous. So easy to just pick up and play with people of any age. I'm just as happy playing it with friends after dinner as with my four year old son.

A wonderful board game is: Carcassonne. Nice and simple, but lots to keep me coming back, and relatively quick to play. It’s been a ‘gateway’ boardgame for me!

A fantastic book is: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Lots of depth and always challenges me to think about what sort of life I want to live. It’s short too - bonus!

A great song is: Lisztomania by Phoenix. Not an objectively great song (sorry!) but brings back happy memories from great travel times.

A perfect evening is: Good food, a couple of nice porter beers and having deep conversations around a camp fire with family and friends.

An amazing thing about making games is: The chance to have fun and play at work, constantly! I also really love that Gamely is a super kind and values driven business.
